Sources of Clicks Through MySexMapIn our ongoing effort to increase the amount of targeted traffic to our clients' Web Sites, MySexMap has partnered with hundreds of Web sites and with major Internet companies to provide search on their sites. Some of our most notable partnerships are with search engines like Lycos, AltaVista, and HotBot; leading ISPs like America Online, CompuServe and EarthLink; meta-search companies such as Dogpile; and highly popular Web sites such as Netscape.com, and Yahoo!. When a consumer searches on one of your terms using any one of these network distribution sites, he or she receives MySexMap search results, and you have the potential to get that targeted traffic.
Protecting You From Inappropriate Clicks
MySexMap uses a number of methods to ensure that all clicks that are reported to our advertisers are genuine. For security reasons, we do not disclose details of this protection methodology, nor do we give visual or system clues that click protection is active. Rest assured that "invalid clicking" is one of the most important issues at MySexMap. We realize that it is mandatory to ensure the integrity of our marketplace.
Tracking Your Clicks
Tracking URLs:
We recommend changing the URL you submit to MySexMap if it appears that your server is counting clicks from our home page but missing the clicks that are sent through our network of partners - MySexMap receives 90% of its traffic from its network of partners.
Using our secure Web interface to change the URL you have listed with us to a tracking URL will allow you to more accurately track the amount of traffic you receive from MySexMap.
There are two different ways to set up your Tracking URLs. Below are a few simple instructions that will allow you to more easily track the traffic you receive from us. After creating your Tracking URL, we recommend testing each one in your Web browser to verify that it is linking properly to its specified page.
Option 1
To change a URL such as http://www.yoursite.com to a tracking URL, add
"?source=MySexMap" to the end.
The URL will look like this:
http://www.yoursite.com/?source=MySexMap
Here's another example:
From: http://www.yoursite.com/home/index.html
To: http://www.yoursite.com/home/index.html?source=MySexMap
If you find that a Tracking URL is not linking properly, you might want to eliminate the forward slash after the domain.
EXAMPLE: http://www.yoursite.com/?source=MySexMap#leo could also be written as http://www.yoursite.com?source=MySexMap#leo.
It is important to test this functionality in your browser to avoid having the URL declined upon editorial review. Our listing guidelines require that all URLs listed in the MySexMap search results are working properly.
Option 2
If the URL already has a question mark in it, you will have to add "&source=MySexMap" to the end.
EXAMPLE:
From: http://www.yoursite.com/search.cgi?q=feline
To: http://www.yoursite.com/search.cgi?q=feline&source=MySexMap
If the URL has a # sign, the "?source=MySexMap" will need to be inserted before the # sign.
EXAMPLE:
From: http://www.yoursite.com/#leo
To: http://www.yoursite.com/?source=MySexMap#leo
Once you've converted the URL in your listings to a tracking URL, you should be able to look for "source=MySexMap" in your access logs. If your Web server behaves normally, it should appear once for every click-through on one of your MySexMap search results.
We recommend that you monitor the new tracking URL to verify that the modified URL works as well as the original. You should also avoid putting the modified URL on your site or distributing it, as these actions would hamper your ability to use it to observe clicks from MySexMap.
Please note that when you change to a tracking URL, the modified listing you submit will be treated as new entries in the search results. This means that if you've bid on a search term for which other advertisers have listings at the same bid price, the listing with the new tracking URL will appear as the last listing for that bid amount.
Click-Tracking Software and Services:
Some Web sites use packaged software or sign up for Web-based services that track and provide statistics on visitors. Examples include packages from companies such as MyComputer.com and HitBOX.com.
These packages and services usually provide information about visitors to your site, including their referring URL (i.e., the site they came from to reach yours), IP address, browser settings, etc. Unfortunately, referring URLs may not accurately reflect the source of the visitor as having come from MySexMap. This happens because MySexMap allows other sites to include MySexMap results in the other siteÕs "real estate", so that even if a user found and clicked on your MySexMap search result, the referring URL would be that of the affiliate.
For example, a user clicking on your result in "Affiliate XYZ's" presentation of MySexMap results, would show up as coming from Affiliate XYZ, not from MySexMap. We are working to display the correct results, and will provide an update when more information is available.
